The book ’Palosh Passion’

The book ’Palosh Passion’ is about the world of Palosh monks in the Middle ages. It means, it is about talented people, They believed in God and the anonymity was for them as natural condition. In spite of it their names remaind for the posterity in the other sources. At the same time there was the question: Who wrote the Palosh Passion? To know it, there was too difficult as the lesson of Da Vinci cod. In spite of it we could searched it by special - so called ’valiant-binding’ - method.

The Passion plays were talked by not clear silence of church in the circles of celebration on the Easter Good-Friday. By researches of Bakk István and Erzsébet the mystery play was developed from the tradition of processions. Palosh monks nearly competed with each other in doing the cultivation of this artistic form. The speciality of their work was that: They treated all of the life of our Jesus Lord, not only the history of the torment. Dear reader, by our book you can know the composition written in 132 stanzas as „heroic-canto”. The codex-literature is our rich tradition. In spite of it the published codexes are not often read by the general public.

That’s why we made no secret of it: We published some of the old Hungarian Maria-misery to love the Hungarian sacralis literature. We also published a Palosh’s sermon from that distinguished historical moment, when there was brought home the body-relics of the First Hermit Saint Pal by the „ancient-sons”, in the other words the „ancient-sons” brought home their „Ancient” from the strange country and took to „Fehéregyháza” into the Maria chapel - their monk’s residence which stood on the place of the ruins of the present Pilisszentlőrinc -. Matthias king often rode out there to share their nation-wide anxieties with wise Palosh fathers.

The authors of the book ’Palosh Passion’ were: PhS Bakk István researcher of Hungarian people, PhS Bakk Erzsébet also researcher of Hungarian people and librarian, Dr. Gyárfás Ágnes (7. of September in 1932. - 4. of September in 2021.) Hungarian historiographer, she was the president of the Philosophical Union of Miskolc. The book was translated by Dr. Czeglédi Katalin. By our book we would like to give dear readers sanctified, blessed minutes near the God. (Editors)
